Floaters are small shapes that appear in your field of vision. They can look like spots, threads, squiggly lines, or cobwebs that drift as your eyes move. Most floaters are a normal part of ageing and are caused by tiny clumps forming in the vitreous, the gel-like substance that fills the eye.

While floaters are usually harmless, a sudden increase in floaters, especially alongside flashes of light or a shadow in your vision, can be a sign of a retinal tear or detachment and needs same-day assessment.

If you are noticing new or worsening floaters, book a consultation so Mr Patel can examine your retina and put your mind at ease.
